Are you Using LinkedIn to Its Full Potential?

The first week back at the office after a long holiday break is never easy, but this is one read I don’t want you to yawn through before kicking off the weekend. It’s funny. This week I noticed my clients had a ton of engagement and interaction happening on their LinkedIn pages (companies and personal). Did everyone really miss work that much? Probably not, but LinkedIn is a great place to go to catch up on the news and business trends of a new year after some time off.

LinkedIn is often viewed as a place to look for employment and find qualified candidates, but there are many great opportunities for marketing and promoting your business that you may not know about. And because of LinkedIn’s highly qualified, business-based audience you won’t encounter half as much spam as on other platforms. For these reasons, LinkedIn is a great place for Business-to-business (B2B) communication.

So what can you do to improve your visibility on LinkedIn? Fortune had a great piece this week telling us just that. Here are some stats they started off with.

  • 80% of B2B leads come from LinkedIn
  • 66% of B2B content marketers say LinkedIn is their most effective social media platform

So are you using all of LinkedIn’s marketing tools to your advantage? We have talked about LinkedIn articles in previous blogs, but do you know how easy they actually are? Don’t reinvent the wheel, repurposing other content is totally fine. Have a blog you or someone at your company wrote recently? Repurpose it as an article.

A few other tips from Fortune that we love include endorsing your new contacts that you want to build a relationship with, follow people on other platforms (Twitter, Facebook) before requesting them on LinkedIn so that they are familiar with your name, test your headshot (free tool called PhotoFeeler) and setting up smarter privacy settings (this was an interesting one!). Something I never thought about… They suggest to make you connections private so that your competitors can’t see who you’re connected to. Clever.
